Personalizing Standardized Test Prep

VHA’s educational philosophy centers around personalized instruction directed to each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses. We believe test preparation should be handled no differently. Large classes moving robotically through a one size fits all curriculum for hours each week, coupled with countless practice exams, simply won’t produce the results you’re looking for. Instead, we practice a hands-on method that helps students maximize their potential by addressing their unique needs in a series of one-on-one sessions.

SSAT / PSAT / ACT / SAT Language & Math Sections

Introductory Pricing: $800 (save $100!)

Kaplan test prep programs, even group sessions, can cost $1299 to $4699 or more

Customized test preparation begins with an interactive diagnostic session with a trained VHA educator, addressing either the language section, the math section, or both, depending on the individual student. We work through sample problems together, learning how the student attacks each question, and observing strengths and weaknesses in the approach. Following this initial session, we create a detailed plan, generally covering seven additional in-studio sessions along with self-directed work to be completed at home. In addition, we recommend the study guide we believe is best suited to the student’s particular needs, and use that book as part of the structure of the program.

SAT / ACT Writing Section

Introductory Pricing: $200 (save $100!)

Writing a timed essay on an unfamiliar topic can be a daunting task. This two-hour hands-on workshop can be added to the standard test prep sequence described above, or taken as a stand-alone session. Our teachers take students through a series of activities designed to help them develop the skills necessary to succeed on the SAT and ACT writing sections. Students will learn how to quickly understand and break down the test prompt, brainstorm possible topics, draft a coherent essay, and revise in order to eliminate errors and maximize their score.

AP & IB Subject Tests

Customized Pricing: $75 per hour

Each subject test requires separate, customized preparation to review the content of the course as well as the structure of the test. We work with each student to identify gaps in preparation and tailor a plan to maximize success. A study guide will be recommended and used as part of the structure of the learning plan. Hourly pricing applies to this type of work, because programs vary widely.
